Stress Free is the Way to Be
Being a senior in high school, I think I can vouch for all of us when saying we definitely all are stressed out or have multiple things going on in our lives. Some schools in Massachusetts have decided to take it upon themselves to fix this problem. They have initiated a de-stress program and have began requiring seniors to take yoga in school. The problem is teens feel they do not have the time to take out of their busy schedules to eliminate stress. They want to replace study hall with yoga, but students use this time to do a lot of their homework and feel this would just add something else to their to-do list. However, the other side is that it is not healthy for a 17 year old to constantly be overwhelmed and methods must be taken to help students overcome their stress levels. The program director of this initiative decided not to publish the honor students names in their local newspaper. Parents and students were outraged and he began receiving hate mail including a comment from Jay Leno on his late night television show. There is a constant competition among students especially when senior year roles around and college applications are due. It is not healthy for a student to stay up all night to get their project done or study for a test, so how can we help find a solution? I think this might be a good option to help students feel less stressed out and teach teenagers how to cope with their stress levels.

I completely agree. I think that teens need a break from their lives. Between working, studies, and possible other things such as sports, hobbies, school clubs, babysitting, college apps, and scholarship entries, when do we have time to relax? yoga should not replace study hall but should be a half class possibly. Like a homeroom each morning. Deep breathing excersised and activity in the morning has been proven to increase work ethic, stamina, and energy levels in general. This would start off students day's in a calm manner without taking away from their study hall time.
go stover!
AHHHH.
If only there was an answer...
Although i agree that something should be done to eliminate stress, its kind of brought upon oursleves... If you dont do a huge project when its assigned, you'll stay up til the last minute doing it...Studying for tests, start when its assigned and when the day comes for your test you'll either know it or you wont. I think the increasing sense of competition in school is what kind of starts the stress... People always want to be better, smarter, get better grades and this is when the stress comes to be. College Apps, its inevitable, its stressful... picking a college and applying and seeing where you get in is scary and stressful and i dont think theres much that can be done.
I do think that there should be a solution to this problem, but i dont think that simply taking yoga will eliminate stress... It's kind of brought upon ourselves...
ANywayysss good thoughts

heeey you. i definitely understand the whole stress level thing, because with school, work, sports, homework, SATS and colelge apps, its definitely a little bit overwhelming. Maybe if they could find some way on their own in order to have some free time, they might be a little bit more sucessful. I know that when im stressed, i like to read or write everything that i am feeling, while blasting my favorite sappy love song. It is actually hard for me to find the time to do this, unless i want to have sero social life... AHH wheres the answer?
alright im sorry but i cant stand the pink background. its stressing me out. no matter how gaudy it is i agree with you. I think we need some type of classes to help teach us how to deal with stress and overcoming it. how many kids have cronic anxiety and dont realize how serious it is?
i bet its thousands. they need help and so do many regular students in high school. we need some relief.
I think that there needs to be a solution to all this stress at schools. I think that yoga is a great idea, but I just do not think a lot of students will go for it because it could replace a class that UCs would actually take. Therefore, I think that there should be yoga classes before and/or after school that can help students. Besides that I think that teachers should realize that high school students are still kids and need to just be kids not adults. I read in an article that students should have five min increase for every year they are in school. For example, in kindergarten students would have 5 min of homework and in 12th grade they would have 2 hours. But, we have so much more than 2 hours of homework, sometimes 2 hours in 1 class. I think that teachers need to give less homework and not make all tests the same week (so maybe they can meet with each other) so there would be less stress on school campuses.
